Caring Strangers

Caring Strangers is dedicated to helping Sonoma County, California's children in need. While we realize the issues which brought about lack in their young lives are not easily solved, we hope to ease some of the burden by providing clothing, school supplies or other items which their parents may be unable to afford. In doing so, we hope to increase the children's self-esteem & support them to succeed in school.
Every fall we buy several hundred backs, fill them with school supplies, and deliver them to our partner organizations, children's centers and homeless shelters. Throughout the year we provide clothing and other necessities whenever their care givers let us know about a need, for the last five years.

Ojai Valley Youth Foundation

Since 1997, the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation has pioneered methods for connecting youth and adults in positive and creative partnerships that promote community well-being. Approximately 1,000 teenagers a year help to lead and participate in programs offering PREVENTION (positive alternatives in the high risk after-school hours), DEVLOPMENT (job training and placement, career exposure, and leadership opportunities), and CONNECTION (for substance abuse prevention, community service, and family support).

Accomplishments include responding quickly to community needs, convening forums after local and national tragedies, working with schools to provide diversity trainings, and facilitating community trainings on mentoring, communication and visioning. OVYF has also helped the community attract additional grant dollars- for example; through OVYF led planning the Ojai Valley became the first Prop. 10 funded "Neighborhood for Learning" in Ventura County, California, with scholarships and enrichment activities for our youngest children and their families.
